ilysm. privacy policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
The short version
ilysm has no accounts. We don't know your email or phone number. What we store is what you and your partner put into the app, tied to a random identifier your device creates, and you can delete all of it at any time. We use limited, content-free product analytics to understand whether the app works well. Location stays off unless you both switch on distance sharing, and even then your partner only ever sees a rough distance, never a place.
What we store
A random identifier is created on your device when you first open the app; it is the only thing that identifies you to us. Connected to it, we store: the first name you enter, the color you pick, your current mood, custom moods, match lines, quick replies, and messages you write, photos you and your partner add (your profile photo and the photos assigned to moods), your couple's pairing and optional anniversary date, and a push-notification token for your device.
If you and your partner both switch on distance sharing, we also store one approximate position for each of you, rounded to about a kilometre before it is saved, for as long as that setting is on. Switching it off deletes it.
What we never collect
No email, no phone number, no contacts, no chat history, no advertising identifiers, no third-party ads, no tracking across apps or websites.
We never collect precise location, and we never show a place, an address, or a map. Distance sharing is off by default and needs both of you to turn it on; it takes a single coarse reading when you open the app, and all your partner ever sees is an approximate distance rounded into wide bands.
Where it lives
Data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure (a database and object storage). Photos are only ever accessible to the two members of your couple, via expiring signed links. Notifications are delivered through Apple's push notification service; the notification content (for example, a mood or a quick reply) passes through Apple to reach your partner's device.
When distance sharing is on, partner weather is supplied by Apple Weather from the same coarse position. See Apple Weather data sources for the data-source details.
Subscriptions & payments
ilysm+ subscriptions are purchased through Apple. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases and manage subscription status; RevenueCat receives your random app identifier and purchase information from Apple for that purpose, and nothing else about you. A subscription bought by either partner unlocks ilysm+ for both members of the couple.
Product analytics
We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to understand where setup gets confusing, which features are useful, and whether purchases complete successfully. App events are tied to the same random identifier used by the service. They can describe an action or a bounded app state, such as an onboarding step, a curated expression, or the kinds of widgets installed.
Analytics never includes your name, custom words, message text, photos, photo links, or location. We do not use session replay, screen or interaction recording, automatic crash capture, or advertising profiles. Website page views are counted without cookies and with a fresh random identifier that is not connected to your app identity.
Service logs
Our servers keep short-lived technical logs (such as request timing and errors) to keep the service running. They are not used for advertising or profiling.
Deleting your data
Settings → "delete account & all data" removes your account. Because a hard day shouldn't be irreversible, everything first rests untouched for 30 days: reopen the app in that window and it all comes back. After 30 days — or the moment you start a new couple — your identifier, moods, photos, push tokens, and any stored position are deleted permanently. Unpairing works the same way for your side of a couple: 30 days restorable, then gone. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled through your Apple account settings, separately from deletion.
Children
ilysm is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll note it here with a new date at the top.
